Milestones and Fun

We've had a great week! It has been very full of doing and accomplishing for our kids. It's one of those weeks that brings into perspective for me just how big (and little at the same time) my kids are.
On Tuesday we started potty training Kate and she has done awesome!!! So proud of her. Only a handful of accidents total. Hooray! And I'm so grateful that she has been easier so far than Isaac was. Guess that's a girl thing, huh? Not going to call her "trained" yet, but well on our way.
Yesterday Isaac started riding his bike without training wheels. He is a fairly cautious kid so I was interested to see him ride just until he felt a little out of control then stop himself. Steve feels like Isaac's approach is similar to his own when he was learning to ride. Isaac has been pretty brave when he has crashed, even when he plowed into a thistle in the field next to our place.
Steve and I are people that very much like a certain amount of control, especially with regards to our children, so these milestones are milestones for us too. It always stretches me a little to have to let go and let my kids take charge of themselves in certain areas, but they have done great. So proud of them.
Today we went to the Homestead for some Pioneer Day activities. Very hands on activities that were great for the kids. Taffy pulling. Ice cream making (in ziploc baggies). A petting zoo. Lunch down the road at the timpfreeze (thanks for the tip Lloyd family. It was good!)

Can't Think of a Title

It must be the thousands of loads of laundry I am trying to conquer (as a result of a bloody nose during the night for Isaac and a blowout in her crib this morning for Kate, plus the backlog from our bout with the flu last week) or general chaos that I am trying to undo, but I can't think of anything to really fun to post about, except Isaac's birthday. That will be another post when I have time and more brain power. Join in the randomness I feel today, here you go.
-It seems like it took forever for his birthday to come since he has been counting down since Christmas. Now I am trying to sort and incorporate wonderful new toys. I love when they have new things to keep them occupied. I love when the TV is demoted and has less appeal.
-I think Kate is going through an afraid stage. As I was doing my hair this morning Kate started shrieking. As near as I can figure, from the pointing and crying, she is afraid of the little bulldozer/skidsteer that was being used in the neighbor's yard. Heaven help us through this summer of yardwork and digging with a child who's afraid of the stuff that will make our job easier. I am grateful that even though she is not talking much and only walking a bit at this point, that things like that let me know that we're doing okay because she is very aware of things and will let me know what she is thinking and feeling.
-I hate money. I think I'd like it more if I were rich and it were no object. But it is an object, something that lots more of could solve some problems. Not that we're poor. And not that I'm trying to be ungrateful. There are definitely some projects (yard especially) that would be SO much easier with lots of $$$$$$$$$.
-Isaac is going through a phase where he pretends to be a puppy all the time. He barked at a lady at Wal-Mart yesterday. The thought of that just makes me laugh and laugh. He has licked me before, so she should consider herself lucky.
-I am grateful for a husband that can and will help out in whatever way I need when I am sick. He really does some things better than I do. The cupcakes and food for part one of Isaac's party were all done by him while I had a migraine. He is a lifesaver. He is the best-just sayin.

Happy Things

Last night as I was preparing for bed it occurred to me that I was singing the Cruella DeVil song from 101 Dalmatians, not as it is on the DVD but as Isaac was singing it. It made me smile so I thought I'd post a few things that have made me smile these last few days.

1. Isaac singing 'Ruella a Ville in his little sweet voice.
2. Watching Isaac either bear his testimony or say a prayer as he climbed the Primary podium on Sunday while I was setting up chairs. It included Mommy, Daddy, and cookies, and ended with amen.
3. A potential job change for Steve not coming through and having a sense of peace that all is as it should be... better timing or opportunity to come at a later time.
4. Listening to Isaac "read" his books and imitate the voices that Steve makes.
5. Summer will come whether we really have spring this year or not.
